Living The Dream

About

In the past 35 years I have held several different positions, over 20 of these years have been managing people the most recent 10 have been in sales, as both a direct capital equipment sales rep and sales manager.

If I had it to do over I would likely make some changes, I have learned a lot over this time that I believe would have changed were I am today.  (In fact I am confident that you could use some of my history to change your future.)

That said I am certainly not unhappy with were I am today, I have a wife of 29 years, have raised 2 kids that are now healthy adults, and I live a comfortable life, with time for family and some fun.

Where you come from in life creates the lens that you look through, you can only dream of so much beyond what you have seen.  I came from a working class family in the Midwest, my father grew up on a farm not speaking English until his brother went to school at 10 years old, they had no indoor plumbing.  As was common in the time he only finished the 8th grade, when he was pulled from school to work on the farm.  My mother finished high school but did not go on to collage, it was just not that common for women of the time.  My father went on to become a successful insurance salesmen, in fact he is still doing this today, at 79 years old.  Needless to say the lens that I looked through was one of hard work and a drive for security in your job.

As I have lived my life, my lens has been broadened, not only with experience but also with the things that I have seen.  I can imagine much more today than I could at 15, with very limited travel and a TV with only 3 channels.

This blog is about passing on some of the lessons that I have learned over the years that would have influenced my life had I known them at 21, about learning from the X, Y or Z generations, and developing my own business in the process. (I am really just scarred of becoming outdated as the world continues to change at ever increasing speed around me.)

So, if you want to be one of the rare animals that learns from the mistakes of others (mine), please drop in from time to time, all I ask in return are your comments, hearing others views will continue to shape my life’s lens and keep my up to date.
